The Formula Sun Grand Prix is a track event which takes place on a closed racing circuit. The race is the qualifier for the American Solar Challenge and pushes teams and vehicles to their limits. Overall the event takes six days, the first three consist of technical inspection of the vehicles. Teams that pass this inspection will then go on to race for three days. Whichever team can complete the most laps within that time will win. Quick pit stops, passing technique and an in-depth understanding of the regulations are crucial for success at this event. Completing this event proves the worthiness of vehicles and allows them to continue on to the American Solar Challenge.
The 2017 Formula Sun Grand Prix will take place at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX. The competition will run from July 3rd to 8th. There is a public viewing day on July 8th that we welcome any supporters in the Austin area to attend!
